Ticks Over and thats IT!

Ive just installed my rebuilt 2.8i V6 in my MK3 Transit, which has been sitting in the shed for 2 years. After a problem with the plunger in the bottom of the metering head, it now starts OK and ticks over, thanks to Scorpio90.
Once its warmed up, its a little lumpy and will not rev up at all, if you hold the throttle open even a little, it coughs out and dies. I know very little about engines, but I have a haynes manual, which is next to no help...

I drive it back and forth ok in drive

Any pointers please

Hi Den
To start with no, I adjusted the idle screw as it was reving quite high (the mondeo rev counter isnt working for some reason) but it didnt seem to make difference.
I then turn the mixture screw about 1/2 a turn anti clockwise, which slowed it down to a nice speed, at which point it boiled over!!!! Ive heard that these are renoued to air locks...
Anyway, topped up after 10 mins, restarted and idled OK, a tad lumpy, but still wouldnt rev up.

I know this may sound silly, but do you have the HT leads fitted in the correct firing order?

Also has the timing been adjusted?

al,if it wont rev up..its just possible that the fuel metering plunger that moves up and down in the metering unit is not rising enough and letting fuel through..the other part that could be causing that is the warm up regulater..a black pipe goes from the warm up reg to the top middle of the metering unit..fuel act on top of the plunger in the metering unit...to much pressure the engine wont rev up or run properly...to little pressure on the plunger the engine will run over rich... ..regards den.

Setting up the K-Jetroonic is a quite sensitive job and without experienced person or workshop manual very tricky
If engine dies, when you push the throttle, it can have two reasons - the mixture is too rich, or too weak. BUt turning the mixture adjustmnet screw is for fine tuning, this should be done in the last moment .....

Start the engine, make it idle and thet try to open the throtle full open. When it dies, take of a HT plug and see, if its wet from gasoline or dry.... If dry, metring unit probably has sticky metering head control valve... if wet, something is wrong with ignition timing, mixture, fuel pressure, injectors... etc...

Very hard to adjust MFI , but 1000% harder via internet

Yes, not very difficult when you know how and why... I also completed a gaugue by myself, bought sinometer to measure resistances.... but this is why I say he nedds a WS manual or somebody experienced -- just like you

Alan, you can download this manual from capri.pl webpages, they have WS manual for Capri Injection there to download, all the procedures are there.

Yes fuel is getting to and through injectors OK and varys when you pull the plate up on the metering head. Will not fire today at all today, I think its over fueling as when ticking over yesterday, the exhuast was black.
Tried varing the dizzy and the mixture but will not fire today Changed coil, plugs and leads, spark was OK anyway.
Im nearly bald with this one

Check the fuel supply. or check fuel pressure during the problem.

OK, time for an update.
I eventually towed the van all the way to Transitmania @ Billing Aquadrome (99.8 miles each way) for guys there who knew about the engines. They got it running yesterday and reving up by hand and promptly dismantled everything.
This afternoon everything seemed OK, but it was bit lumpy and needs the pressure checking amounst other things. Great I thought, so I refitted refitted the prop and bumper had a drive around the van around the site. After 10 minutes of light driving, it started to run quite badly, changed all the plugs (sooty) and away again... Decided to drive home, stopped in the petrol station just outside the site, chucked 50 quid in, started and it started to make a strange banging sound. Friends stopped and had a look, head gasket had gone I was warned about this before installed it, but I didnt listern.
Towed all the way home again

Starting the strip down tomorrow, I must be mad

I was told yeaterday, that Ford rebuilds are crap anyway Compression check didt show anything up before hand, but a mechanic friend of mine said once the gaskets have got wet and are then left to stand, they corrode, but I thought being only rebuilt 2000 miles back it would be fine
