Talking New Sweeney Film, Possibly

Just thought I should post in this Forum what I posted to a message in the General Chat Forum about a possible Sweeney Film next year.

A Sweeney film based on the Gritty 1970's TV show. I wonder how unpolitically correct it will be ?

Groan.. Limey, you get worse ! he he he

The film will be a modern take on the Sweeney so therefore I doubt they will have any throw back to the 70, but you never know.

if it's not set in the 70s then there's not much point, anyway john thaw's dead so who would take his place? and it wouldn't be the same if they drove a mondeo, i mean heartbeat is set in the 60s could you really see them driving mondeos using sat navs and mobile phones and going into the aidensfield arms and drinking WKD and watching the football on sky on a big flatscreen telly?

Might be actually true when they are not doing any filming in the Aidensfield Arms!

Could be right to a certain extent. Thief Takers was based loosely on the Sweeney and was a modern version. It was ok, but was not as raw or gritty as the 70's version.

I only hope the characters have chest hair, do not use hair products or hand cream, shave every alternate Thursday, smoke, drink pints, or whisky after a good "collar" or when it's all going to crap, know how to fire a gun properly instead of the poor attempts you see in the films now a days and drive fast with lots of tyre screeeeeeeeeeeeeching !

And if they bring a yank in to take the leading role, I will find out where they are filming it and burn the damn set down.

Oh did I say that out loud ???!!??? oppsss

The team behind "life on mars" got very close to the 70's era feel. It's all about getting the language right," no wot i meen guv". "FORGET POLITICAL CORRECTNESS" we've had years of that, Life on mars is a breath of fresh air. Dennis Waterman's old blue mk3 cortina may even still be knocking around. If anyone can do it Gene Hunt would make a pretty good regan. What d'ya fink?

Well, it appears Ray Winstone turned down the lead role as Regan in the remake of The Sweeney.......

But it could be played by Paul Bettany, so not all bad news.. but still, would have been good with Ray. "shut it!"

Watched a Jonathan Ross show (filmed 23rd May 2008) and Ray Winston was on it.

He said he is going to play the leading role in the Sweeney !

He said the script is excellent and keeps the grit of the original TV series.

'nough said
